never knew he was first signed with ruff house

Nas has always been one of my favorite MC’s not because of his music but because he calls it like he sees it. He was never afraid to be bold with his rhymes and his opinions. Nas makes the music he wants to make regardless of what else is going on. I think the masses will one day realize the brilliance of Nas the rapper. In my many years in the business I have always had great interviews with Nas. This particular winter night in 1993 was the first time I interviewed him.

I was a fan from his cameo on “Live At The Barbeque” and “Half Time”. Nas spent a lot of time in Philly trying to get his career started on the legendary label Ruff House, he was very young to the business and had this dream of an album he was working on called “Illmatic”, in this inteview he talks about his struggles as a new artist trying to get his album recorded. This was 14 months before “Illmatic” his classic debut was released and he went by the name Nasty Nas at that time. Funny side note, when we did drops he called me “Cobby Cobb” we both cracked up at that.
